Belgian donation enabling Customs Capacity Building activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo

On June 19th 2009 an agreement between the Government of Belgium and the WCO entered into force. Through this agreement Belgium provides financial support of EUR 25.000 which enables the WCO to provide Capacity Building assistance to the Customs service of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a comment the Director of Capacity Building, Mr. Lars Karlsson says: "I want to thank the Government of Belgium for the financial support for a region and a country that is trying hard to modernize its Customs administration. With this contribution we are in a much better position to support the process in a constructive way. Belgium has stepped up as a capacity builder and they should be acknowledged for this initiative. I hope that this first agreement can be followed by others in the future."
