Almost 700 participants comprising senior government and business leaders from across the America's region gathered in Atlanta, United States for the 2010 Americas Competitiveness Forum. High-level delegates included one President, four Vice Presidents and more than 30 Ministers of State.

The Forum focused on four key topics recognized as drivers of competitiveness: Innovation and Green Technologies, Education and Workforce Development, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development, and Supply Chain Connections.

During a plenary discussion, WCO Deputy Secretary General, Sergio Mujica, gave a presentation on the WCO's AEO concept which is an integral element of the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards to secure and facilitate global trade. Costa Rica took this opportunity to launch its AEO Programme.

The Deputy Secretary General also moderated the Panel Session on Supply Chain Connections with the theme: "Keeping connections fast: Ensuring the security and stability of the supply chain". Participants discussed solutions and steps that could be taken to ensure delivery of quality products in a timely fashion given the ever-growing complexity of global supply chains.

Besides quality networking opportunities, the Forum provided an ideal platform to promote the work and instruments of the WCO and the interests of the broader Customs community.
