The WCO recently conducted a joint workshop with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for the East and Southern Africa Region at the WCO’s Regional Training Centre in Pretoria, South Africa. The workshop focused on the relationship between Customs valuation and transfer pricing which has been a priority issue for Customs administrations and the business sector over recent years. Participants were invited from both tax and Customs administrations and facilitators were from WCO, OECD and World Bank Group. This new innovation enables tax and Customs officials to meet, discuss areas of mutual interest and forge stronger contacts between their respective departments. In particular, the workshop examined to what extent information contained in a transfer pricing study may be useful to Customs when verifying the Customs value of multi-national enterprise transactions.
