On 28 June 2014, Brunei Darussalam deposited with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization its instrument of accession to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (Harmonized System).
Considering that more than 98 % of international merchandise trade is classified in terms of the Harmonized System, the World Customs Organization is pleased to welcome Brunei Darussalam as the 150th Contracting Party to the Harmonized System Convention and looks forward to its active participation with respect to Harmonized System matters.
Brunei Darussalam has been a Member of the World Customs Organization since 1 July 1996. Brunei Darussalam is located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, bordering the South China Sea and Malaysia. Its principal export commodities are crude oil, natural gas and garments. The country’s principal import commodities are iron and steel, motor vehicles, machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, food and chemicals.
