Under the auspices of the WCO INAMA project (funded by the CITES Secretariat, GiZ, Sweden and the US Department of State) a Basic Intelligence Training course on CITES was held in Nairobi from 27 to 31 July 2015. This event was hosted by the Kenya Revenue Authority, funded by Sweden, and attended by officers from Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda.　

The training focused on the intelligence cycle and aimed at supporting the participants in modernizing the targeting practices of their administrations by building intelligence capabilities related to illegally-traded wildlife products. In addition, the training also focused on strengthening collaboration with other national agencies and stakeholders involved in the fight　against the illegal trade of wildlife products through discussions facilitated by representatives from the Lusaka Agreement Task Force, Wildlife Conservation Society and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) - Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Nicholas Kinoti, the Deputy Commissioner of Customs at the Kenya Revenue Authority underlined the important role that Customs plays in disrupting the illegal trade of wildlife products and the need for collaboration with key stakeholders.
