Operation Cocair 5 brings first impressive results

14 十二月 2015

Within the framework of the Operation Cocair 5 that took place from 5 to 13 December 2015, an exceptional seizure was made by Benin Customs.

With the support of the Joint Airport Interdiction Task Force (JAITF) established by the UNODC-WCO-INTERPOL Project AIRCOP, Benin Customs officers intercepted 265 kg of cocaine that was smuggled from Brazil via Morocco and Benin by air with the final destination in Nigeria.

Cocaine was smuggled in air freight and was seized when an alleged owner of the parcel arrived to finalise Customs formalities and pick it up for further transfer. The drugs were concealed among car spare parts.

The investigation is ongoing. This seizure is the first of such a scale in Benin. It demonstrates the added value of the cooperation between different enforcement agencies both at the national and international level.
