In the framework of the West African Customs Administrations Modernization (WACAM) project, funded by Sweden, a regional support mission in the field of Strategic Management was carried out for Anglophone West African countries from 9 – 13 November 2015 in Monrovia, Liberia.
The mission is a direct response to the request of the West African region to enhance Customs modernization at the national and regional level. The WACAM project is currently in its second phase and provides broad support in the areas of Human Resource Management and Stakeholder Engagement. The mission to Liberia marked the beginning of the project’s capacity building efforts in the area of Strategic Management especially on the development and importance of a strategic plan. It covered various strategic management tools and techniques such as SWOT analysis, Balanced Scorecard, Result Based Management, Business Process Mapping and Change Management. At the end of the workshop, the participants developed individual action plans, outlining how the acquired knowledge will be applied in their home administrations as well as suggestions on how the WACAM project can support them in the future.
The workshop will be followed by national support missions in the most visibly engaged Administrations.
