WCO-INAMA Inter-Agency Cooperation and Coordination on enforcement of CITES workshop

Under the auspices of the WCO INAMA project (funded by the CITES Secretariat, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GiZ), Sweden and the US Department of State) an Inter-Agency Cooperation and Coordination on enforcement of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Workshop was held in Brussels from 14 to 16 December 2015. This particular workshop was funded by GiZ.

The main objective of the Workshop was to support Members’ endeavours to co-ordinate their enforcement of CITES related activities with other relevant authorities (e.g. Police; Wildlife Agencies) and to foster their co-operation at both national and regional level.

The Workshop focused on the following main areas:

  • Stakeholders engagement on enforcement of CITES
  • Coordinated Border Management on enforcement of CITES;
  • Information and intelligence sharing on CITES (i.e. CEN and CENcomm, Interpol tools);
  • Sharing of best practices.

The Workshop was attended by officers from Customs, Police and Wildlife Authorities from the following countries: Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe. The workshop was facilitated by the WCO in cooperation with Interpol and the UK Border Force.
