WCO supports Kenya Revenue Authority in the area of Customs Compliance and Risk Management

Following an invitation from the Swedish Tax Agency (STA) and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the WCO conducted a mission to Nairobi from 30 November to 4 December. The STA is conducting a long-term modernization project together with KRA. As part of the long-term project, a project team has been put together to conduct joint Compliance Risk Management for Customs and Domestic Taxes on a Pilot basis. Team leader is the head of the KRA Tax Compliance and Risk Management Unit. The task of this project team is to design and carry out risk and compliance management activities. Participants represent the KRA areas of Customs and Border protection, Domestic taxes, Traffic Revenue, Research, Information and Communication, and Finance.

The purpose of the mission was to raise Customs profile within the team, to highlight specific Customs issues, to familiarize the team with WCO best practices and standards in the area of Customs risk and compliance management, and to raise the entire team’s awareness and skills in the area. The opening remarks were delivered by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Pancrasius Nyaga, head of the Corporate Risk management Division..

The event was funded by Sweden and was facilitated by an expert from the WCO with the support and participation of the STA project manager.
