Dubai Customs intercepted 1kg of heroin on 14 June 2015 at Dubai International Airport (DXB) Terminal 2.
Mr. Falah Khalil Al Sammak, manager of passenger Customs operations at DXB Terminal 2, said the narcotics were concealed in 78 capsules that had been swallowed by a smuggler. Customs inspectors, drawing from their training and experience, identified the smuggler by his agitated behaviour and subsequently detained him.
"His luggage was manually searched and scanned but nothing unusual was found. The X-ray scan conducted later showed an amount of strange objects inside his stomach." When questioned, the suspect confessed to having swallowed packets stuffed with narcotics.
Mr. Al Sammak confirmed that these consisted of around 1kg of pure heroin. This is the fourth attempt foiled by Dubai Customs at DXB Terminal 2 this year and is the biggest haul of its kind at a Dubai airport.
