From 12 to 16 October 2015, the capacity building contact points of the Customs of the West and Central Africa Region (WCA) held their 6th annual meeting in Dakar, Senegal. This meeting jointly organized by the Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) and the Senegalese Customs was attended by 14 Customs administrations, the WCA Vice-chair, all WCO-WCA regional structures and the WCO Secretariat. It allowed monitoring the capacity building progress and customs reform at national and regional level, and, in particular, the implementation of the Regions’ 2013-2017 strategic plan through annual roadmaps designed by the ROCB and a self-evaluation process performed by the customs administrations themselves. It also helped initiate a discussion on regional projects and priorities, launch the annual process of identifying assistance needs and develop the regional capacity building market. The latter allows WCA customs administrations seek or provide assistance to another administration in the same region and thus gives life to regional cooperation. Participants also had the pleasure of visiting the new Directorate General of Senegalese Customs.
