A Theoretical Training for officers from Customs, Police, Coast Guard and Drug Enforcement who will form the new Port Control Unit was conducted by WCO training experts in Manila, The Philippines, from 5 to 16 October 2015. 4 officers of the port of Cebu also participated in this initial training course.
This 2-week activity will be complemented by a Practical Training provided by WCO, currently scheduled for late January 2015.
Both training courses largely focus on risk assessment and profiling of illicit goods in containerized traffic and cover the core competences of a functioning Port Control Unit.
They also build the fundament for additional and more specialized training, provided in the framework of the Container Control Programme.
The WCO training experts lauded the commitment and professionalism of their Philippine colleagues.
The UNODC office in Bangkok was of great support in the organizational and logistical arrangements for this training course, which was generously funded by Canada and the United States.
WCO and UNODC look forward to a successful work of the new Port Control Unit in Manila.
