At the request of the Director General of Paraguay Customs, Mr. Nelson Valiente, the WCO carried out an integrity assessment mission for Paraguay Customs from 14-18 December 2015. The purpose of the mission was to gain information on the context in which Paraguay Customs was operating and assess the measures taken to enhance transparency.
During the mission, the WCO held a series of meetings with key stakeholders that included the Integrity Committee, representatives from all main Customs Departments as well as private sector partners such as the Association of Importers, the Chamber of Exporters, the Association of Customs Brokers, Unilever Paraguay, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (FEPRINCO) and SGS Paraguay. A workshop on the theme of corruption for senior officers was also organised in addition to a visit to the Customs Bureau of Ciudad del Este.
At the end of the mission, the WCO provided feedback to the Director General that included a series of practical suggestions to further enhance integrity and transparency within the Paraguay Customs Administration.
