On 12 May 2016, Oman deposited with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization its instrument of accession to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (Harmonized System).
Considering that more than 98 % of international merchandise trade is classified in terms of the Harmonized System, the World Customs Organization is pleased to welcome Oman as the 154th Contracting Party to the Harmonized System Convention and looks forward to its active participation with respect to Harmonized System matters.
Oman has been a Member of the World Customs Organization since 11 September 2000. Oman is located in the Middle East, bordering United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast. The country’s principal export commodities are petroleum, fish, metals, textiles. The country’s principal import commodities are machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, food, livestock, lubricants.
The Harmonized System Convention will enter into force in Oman on 1 January 2018, unless Oman decides to specify an earlier date.
