WCO ESA Regional Accreditation Workshop on Risk Management, in cooperation with SARS and ROCB ESA, and funded by UK Department for International Development (UK-DFID), was conducted from 26 to 30 September 2016 in Pretoria, South Africa.

Following nominations by the WCO Members, the WCO Secretariat evaluated applications considering several criteria, and selected 12 participants from 8 countries to attend the accreditation workshop.

During opening ceremony, Mrs. Gugulethu Africa, Domain Specialist at SARS (Head of RTC South Africa) and WCO representative highlighted the importance of risk management in Customs daily work as well as having a pool of advisors to conduct workshops and advise regional Customs administrations in order to enhance existing risk management practices.

The WCO Accreditation Workshop on Risk Management is designed to develop a pool of advisors capable of using the WCO Risk Management Compendium, the WCO Diagnostic Framework and the WCO Capacity Building Development Compendium in order to conduct workshops within Customs administrations, leading to the development of risk management structures, procedures and products.

Candidates who successfully completed this Workshop were considered as pre-accredited and would be invited to an in-country workshop as co-facilitators. Successful pre-accredited candidates during in-country mission will become WCO Accredited Risk Management Advisors.
