On 30 August 2018, the WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya gave a special lecture to WCO scholars at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Ivy Hall, in Tokyo, Japan. Nineteen scholars from WCO Members who are following the Master’s degree programme in Public Finance at the GRIPS and in Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights at Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU) attended the lecture.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) approved the Mercator Implementation Plan for Zimbabwe in September 2017. One of the Strategic Objectives of the Plan is to strengthen and expand ZIMRA’s Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) and Post-Clearance Audit (PCA) programmes.

Facilitators from the WCO Secretariat, New Zealand Customs and Australian Border Force conducted the workshop.

The WCO has published two key documents that will provide detailed guidance and further support for the implementation of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programmes and their complementary Mutual Recognition Arrangements/Agreements (MRAs) in a more effective and harmonized manner globally: the Customs AEO Validator Guide and the MRA Strategy Guide.

From 24 to 26 July 2018, the WCO participated at the "VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference on the Problems of Expert Activities" in Yekaterinburg (Russian Federation). The Conference was opened by Mr. Peter Tokarev, Head of the Central Expert Criminalistic Customs Administration (CECCA) who emphasized the important role played by Customs Laboratories in the protection of the society and the environment.
