15 Customs officers participated in a WCO Airport Compliance and Enforcement Officer (ACEO) workshop from 22 to 25 May 2018.
ACEO training is underpinned by enhancing risk management capabilities with a particular focus on risk-based passenger selectivity. Participants examine the elements of risk assessment, profiling and targeting, together with use of information and intelligence.
Specific techniques covered also include verbal and non-verbal risk assessment, questioning methodologies and systematic examination procedures for small items, hand baggage, checked baggage and search of persons. The programme is mostly practical and participants undertake individual and group tasks, simulation exercises and role-plays.
The final day of the programme took place at Seychelles International Airport. Participants take new knowledge and techniques introduced in classroom scenarios into live processing of arriving and departing international travellers. In closing the course, both the WCO and Commissioner-General of Seychelles Revenue Commission, acknowledged the Japanese Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF) for making the workshop possible.
