The Administrative Committee for the Container Convention holds its 17th Session

The 17th Session of the Administrative Committee for the Customs Convention on Containers, 1972 was held on 25-26 February 2019 at the WCO Headquarters in Brussels. The Customs Convention on Containers, 1972 (Container Convention) is a United Nations convention administered by the WCO.

The 17th Session of the Administrative Committee was attended by over 40 participants representing 9 Contracting Parties to the Container Convention, 19 WCO Member administrations, a number of international organizations and private sector entities.

The Administrative Committee discussed various aspects related to the Customs treatment of return-refill containers and of container security/tracking devices. The delegates were briefed on the recent developments under the umbrella of the SAFE Working Group that are of relevance to the Administrative Committee. The Committee was informed of the pending establishment of a container shipping association with the purpose of paving the way for digitalization, standardization and interoperability in the container shipping industry. The meeting concluded with a highly informative panel discussion on container supply chain safety.
