On 20 March 2020, in the light of the recent global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), sent a letter encouraging Contracting Parties to the Conventions on temporary admission to provide sufficient facilities for ATA Carnet holders and representatives to re-export temporarily imported goods, without unexpected additional costs, in cases where delays in re-exporting were due to preventive measures taken by governments of the Contracting Parties against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The World Customs Organization (WCO) held a bi-national training workshop on Customs Valuation in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, from 12 to 15 February 2020. The workshop was attended by twenty Customs officials from Haiti and twelve from the Dominican Republic, with the majority of participants being operational personnel.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is adopting new data analysis techniques developed by the WCO BACUDA Team to fight undervaluation and has started analysing real-time data on imports coming through Tin Can Island Port, near Lagos, using the Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to detect fraud developed by the WCO as part of its BACUDA Project.

Approximately 160 delegates representing Member administrations and stakeholder organizations took part in the 19th session of the Integrity Sub-committee (ISC). The 19th session of the ISC was chaired by Mr. Carlos Enriquez Montes, from Mexico Tax Administration.
