Strengthening the organizational culture of Burkina Faso Customs: a decisive vector in the fight against corruption and promotion of integrity

05 五月 2023

From April 24 to 26, 2023, WCO experts from the WCO Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion (A-CIP) Programme facilitated, at the request of Burkina Faso Customs, a workshop dedicated to strengthening their organizational culture.

A component of the WCO A-CIP Programme curriculum on Culture of integrity, this technical assistance and capacity building activity allowed more than forty participants to identify and take ownership of the tools and good practices to support organizational change within their administration, build a working environment fostering integrity-based professional behaviors and encourage each Customs official to position themselves as a fully committed A-CIP actor.

With the coordination of the Burkina Faso Customs A-CIP Committee and active support of the WCO Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) for West and Central Africa (WCA), Customs officials and A-CIP Programme experts have worked towards consolidating their individual and collective commitments as well as a roadmap that aligned with the anti-corruption strategy of Burkina Faso Customs.

The high points of the workshop pertained, in particular, to the restitution and analysis of the results of the second iteration of the Customs Integrity Perception Survey (CIPS II) of Burkina Faso Customs, to the sharing of experiences, virtually, by Belgium Customs and Excise General Administration as well as a comprehensive presentation on WCO Gender Equality and Diversity (GED) approach.

By mobilizing executives and middle managers directly involved in organizational change, due to their functions and missions, the A-CIP Programme experts could relay the efforts of Burkina Faso Customs aimed at building a Culture of integrity adapted to the strategic and operational challenges of the Customs administration, including with regard to duties and taxes collection and economic performance.

The WCO A-CIP Programme is currently supporting more than 20 WCO member administrations, with funding from Norad and Canada. For more information, please contact: capacity.building@wcomod.org.
