The World Customs Organization (WCO) provided technical assistance for Fiji's Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programme from 29 January to 2 February 2024. This mission, supported financially by the Customs Cooperation Fund - China, aimed to enhance the existing AEO Programme of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), which was launched in 2018.
The mission took place in Suva and was led by a WCO Technical and Operational Advisor in the area of AEO programmes from Türkiye. Bringing together representatives from various FRCS units, the team engaged in comprehensive discussions covering several crucial aspects. These discussions delved into the challenges confronting the current programme, potential avenues for its expansion, alignment with AEO criteria outlined in the SAFE Framework of Standards, inclusion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), exploration of additional benefits, formulation of strategies for future mutual recognition agreements, and the adoption of an outreach plan by FRCS.
One notable highlight of the mission included a site visit to the facilities of an AEO certified company, providing an invaluable opportunity for the group to witness firsthand the implementation of AEO criteria on-site.
Following the mission's conclusion, a detailed action plan was developed, highlighting FRCS's strong commitment to fortifying its AEO programme. This collaborative effort signifies a significant stride towards enhancing trade facilitation, promoting economic growth, and strengthening security measures within Fiji's Customs landscape.
